*Musical Weekend Bonanza!*

I strive to try new experiences as often as I can. Simple really, life is short...grab as many moments of joy as you can! Perks of not working a normal 9-5 job allows me to do all the things I want to do :) I don't know many people that still enjoy hanging out with their parents but then again I don't have your typical stiffed neck parents :P My dad in his youth went to the performance of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake by the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia. He'd relive it again and again and thats how I developed my love for the legendary Swan Lake.

Saturday morning arrived as I snored all through the morning well into noon. I sway out of my room and my dad tells me that tonight there's a performance of Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty by the Philharmonic Malaysia! I rush online to place an order...as expected...all full! I try again and again...just our luck in two tickets in the front row and another few rows away became available! Little did we know the night we were in for :)

Awww come on...didn't we all grow up with Disney's Sleeping Beauty. Another masterpiece that sparked the unrealistic hope that SOME DAY MY PRINCE WILL COME :P

We put on our formal wear and rush to KL. The night never looked so grand...the women in beautiful gowns and the men equally dashing in suits. We head in and wait patiently.

For 2 wonderful hours with one intermission we sat silently as the orchestra did their magic. The conductor of the night was Kees Bakels and he was magnificent. He took the time to run us through the sequence of events before beginning. Thus, we were able to follow the tunes despite not having the usual ballet performance to play it out for us. As an hour went by, he said 'Here is the famous waltz'. I immediately recognised it from the song in the Disney movie!

I've been to the Philharmonic before but only for a short performance. This one blew me away. I believe its one of those things I'd be telling my grandkids one day :)) Absolutely fantastic...you could feel the notes flow through you. Again, just magnificent! I cannot wait for their Christmas special *squeals!

Sunday morning arrives and I am awake bright and early running out of the house at 9am to meet my yoga buddy, Le Porkchop at the gym. As always, I arrive and I see Mindy run into the yoga hall ontime as I linger outside being few seconds late and all! We have our usual Sunday morning workout as we chat on the past week. Sweaty n stinky, we head to the shower room and spend an hour primping ourselves and its already 2pm.

I hop into her monster truck and we head to 1U for lunch. Starving children we were and we decided on Just Thai. Ordering lunch, Mindy had Green Chicken Spicy Laksa and me the Seafood Tom Yam.

We had planned a whole day of window shopping and many gossip sessions but as we sat in the oh so comfy booth, she yawned...I yawned. We needed coffee!!! The people of Malaysia being in a state of save every penny, instead of splurging at our local Kopitiam, we cut the shopping trip short and headed to Mindy's place for her mum's yummy black coffee!

When we were in school, Mindy's house was just down the road from Sri Aman so her place was the spot where all things illegal happened! Merentas Desa? Take a short nap at her house while the rest of the school jog away. Hari Keusahawanan? Head to her house take off our uniforms and put on casual outfits on. Sipping our hot cups of coffee...we chat...try makeup...ogle at her fab dress collection...talk of man candy and scare the crap outta her 11 year old mutt and just like old times, Mindy's granpa drives me home :))

ps: Give Tschaikowsky's Swan Lake Opus 20 a listen...it's hauntingly beautiful

*Catfight! Roar!*
Okay,I bet from the image above...you've got a pretty good idea of what I mean by 'Catfight' eh! The unanswered question thats always on my mind is WHY THE HELL CAN'T WOMEN GET ALONG???

Yes, we cant live without our girlfriends. They are true pillars of strength when it comes to hard times. But...the rest of them not included in the true friends category can be such evil beings. You don't see men fight the way women do. Maybe its because competition is a well accepted feeling in the male world. Its alright to want to be better than your male buddies. Its not taken personally. Its not done in an extremely evil emotional manner. Its accepted that the best man will win.

Now in a woman's world, a fight....it could be anything really...who's got the best bag? who's got the best man candy? who's the smarter one? who's the more independent one? who's the prettier one? who's got the flattest abs? who's got an arse thats most heavenly? who's boobs are perkier?

In the past few years I've been looking through the glass at women that tend to compete in an unfair manner. A fair fight to prove who's better is welcome by all means but when you get bitchy then thats not very nice is it! Some try the gossip behind her back and try to ruin her reputation method. Others try the keeping useful information to themselves to give them the upper hand. There are those that are very comfortable receiving help from others but prefer to not toss a helping hand when needed by other women.

Sigh, I know its something I just have to get used to...with women catfights are emotional. You never expect it to be those you think of as friends to turn around and bitch slap you! It happens at work, with funtime buddies,in school, amongst housemates, with coursemates...the list goes on!

There are often times where I've been intimidated by an intelligent, sexy woman. I tell myself I'd want her for a friend and not for an enemy. That keeps me away from the catfight hotzone!

*What am I up to now?*
I've got another week of hols left and I am gonna squeeze all the fun outta that sucker!

1. Watching Frasier on youtube - by far one of the more intelligent comedies of our time! *My fav character has gotta be Niles :)) My holiday nightly indulgence. ps: I'd like to shoot the cast of shows along the cheesiness as Smallville, One Tree Hill, OC, Gossip Girl, etc.

2. Reading the hundreds of Women's Weekly magazines donated to me - My lovely cousin decided that she wanted to get rid of em (like about 5 years worth collection) and I swooshed in and grabbed em all for meself *muahahaha! Toilet reads! pppsssst : My dad's installed a lil cabinet for my loo reads just above my shining poop throne :P

3. Megasale mania! - I've got my evil eye on this glitter dust from Make Up Forever. I've been hunting for these for ages. They have different sizes of glitter and different colours *dies with happiness. Perfect for the girls night out.

4. Wondering constantly why the music played in gyms are themed 'Gay Club Tunes' - I swear everytime I forget to bring my mp3 player I'm grooving to tunes I believe must have been a fabulous steal from our very own gay club. Sigh, I soooo am in need of a gay BFF!

5. I travel the world through books - I just read Angela's Ashes once again because I do so love it. Now, I'm reading Oprah's current book club selection, The New Earth. I'm halfway through and I have to admit that I was a lil sceptical about this one. I hate motivation, self discovery, self help books. I think most of it is mumbo jumbo. Frankly hated The Secret *Come on, you didn't already know the secret? you needed the book to tell you? But, I'm actually discovering stuff about myself on The New Earth. Its about the ego. Something we can all identify with. Lets see how it ends eh.

6. Scaring the crap outta Snuggleboy - The nights are lonely...I stay awake doing work or catching up on dramas...when I feel the need for excitement...I creep slowly towards my sleeping doggie...and yell 'Aaaaaaaaah'...Doggie wakes up in sheer fear...mission accomplished!

7. Looking into the fridge - Holidays are to be spent cooking for oneself! Weee, I love cooking and I believe my dishes are pretty d.e.l.i.c.i.o.u.s baby! My current fav is blackpepper chicken fillet that I eat along with yummy green veg. Crap! AM I TURNING INTO MY MUM?

8. N.E.R.D alert - On a more serious note, for my fellow engineer buddies. I've gotta new research project that need to be completed within one month. Its designing a current transformer using CST. The difference is the material we're testing. Its fairly new and I dont have much previous research to fall back on. My strength lies in EMG & Tele. So,this is new ground for me.Sigh, gambateh I can do it!

Its not sex, drugs & booze...its fun Premeela style baby!

Whoooosh....Prem has left the building!

*Dagnammit!*
Ahhhh...the joys of being a part of the public transportation family. Girl walks...girl notices thunder...girl flees across the bridge avoiding the storm...girl is soaked wet because the freaking bridge's roof is ruined! Thus, girl is now S.I.C.K.

I was an extremely sicky child...yeah yeah I know you all say 'What??? We were all sicky as kids'. Trust me you don't know sick until you've had severe athsma! The scars of my childhood still scare my parents to this day really. I spent a good half of my first 10 years sleeping in the hospital. Looking at me one wouldn't guess I'd be gasping for air on the inside.

So the rule for me is...when I get the sniffles and the sneezies...I flee to the medicine cabinet and pop in my pills asap, sleep like a baby for a few days and pray I've won the fight against it turning into an asthma attack! So what am I doing right now???

I'm gonna drink soup & rest like a baby until I feel like a champion!

aaaahhhchhhooo...zZzZzZz....

*Brown skin*

Well, have you met my mum? My taste for unique fashion boutique dresses, shimmery pop eyes and candy red toes are totally hand-me-down tips from my ever classic mum! Given she tones it down alot these days being a mummy and all but I've taken it upon myself to continue the family tradition :P

Being brown skinned isn't the best when it comes to makeup. Awww...come on! We look like creatures from another planet if we try to jazz it up with the colours of the rainbow. Unlike my Chinese buddies with their perfect light skin just waiting to be dipped in all colours bold and bright :P

Here's my favourites for the sun kissed brown bronzed godesses out there!

1. A girl thats gotta study till the wee hours of the night...her ultimate BFF has got to be the concealer! I've been on a constant search for the perfect shade that matches my skin. It took me yeeeeaaaarrsss to find the champion of them all. My 'I can't live without it' baby is Bobbi Brown's Golden shade. Its perfect for my dark eye circles! Every girl should have one!

2. Eyeshadows I believe are perfect for the Bollywood skin tone are those of beige, brown, gold, bronze, black, shimmer cubes in gold. My collection from Estee Lauder is fantastic for a girl thats working in a manly man job. Its classic, light and brightens the eye area. You will never look like a tranny with too much makeup with this investment :))

a) I put on my Estee Lauder light shade first along the lids

b) Along the edges of my lid I spread on MAC's Amber Lights

c) A dash of Revlon's Shimmer Cube till brow bone to wake my sleepy eyes

3. You must own a pencil eyeliner for the bottom waterline and a liquid eyeliner for the top lids. My personal fav is Lakme because its an Indian brand that comes with a fantabulous brush for easy aplication. My buddy Porkchop splurged tons of money on a high end Stilla smudge pot which I believe wasn't worth the money when Lakme is just below RM10! My fav pencil liner has gotta be the one from Estee Lauder. It doesn't smudge easily and stays on for hours. Perfect for today's Smoky Eyed siren.

4. I don't adore the painted on face look so once again the ever subtle classy Blush set from Estee Lauder is used to give my cheeks alil sparkle and colour.

5. Lastly! Something that's totally easy for girls of all skin tones to find! Lipgloss!!! I have so many hidden in all my lil bags. I looooove em because I'm a compulsive lip chewer when stress calls so I need em desperately :P My current fav is this one from Revlon.

I'd like to thank my girly gang for the inspiration. Stay fabulous and classy! I'm going for the barely there makeup look :P So for those of extreme heart...shoo off to another blog!

i lurve this *heart flutters

ps: For cheap alternatives head to spots like Skinfood,Bodyshop,Elianto,Faceshop.

*Girl talk*

Well, I've gotta get something off my chest! Recently, I've come to learn of the art of Photoshopping! I was in awe...dumbstruck...flabbergasted...by what I could look like with a lil nip/tuck. In my mind I said 'Hmmm...why not? Everyone's doing it anyways...So why not me?'

I really didn't think it would bother me as much as it did. I transformed myself skinnier...sexier...smoother with Photoshop CS3. Felt extremely proud of myself for picking up the software so soon. My cousin, Rupi was crashing at our house said something to me that got my brain whizzing 'Prem, I'm never gonna trust your pictures ever again!'.

People that know me...know that if I stand for anything....I've always been the first to stand up and yell 'For god sakes...stop being so shallow...beauty comes from within...hotness clearly varies from woman to woman because baby...confidence is sexy!'

Coming from a girls school...I've had to deal with so many girlfriends on the verge of self starvation and the belief that they were absolutely ugly. I see girls that are beautiful...they have both their arms and legs attached...fabulous hearing and eyesight and they choose to whine about a pimple? Self obsessed much? I won't lie that I've never been through it...infact I've had my days of 'one cracker to satisfy my hunger'...but I've managed to bounce back fairly quickly. I take being a role model to my sister seriously and the last thing I would want her to learn from me is to have a physical complex!

Be healthy...you can't fight genes...wear that fantastic dress even if you have chunky thighs...rock that nerdy glasses...twirl your bohemian skirt...I'm saying that beauty is in the eye of the beholder...believe in yourself, love yourself and it will shine through...NOW THAT'S SEXY!

ps: I have chosen to be anti-photoshop due to excess self loving!

*Sniff sniff...darnit...its coming to an end*
I have been reaping the benefits of still being a student :P My 2 month break is down to its last 2 weeks!

*Picture me... in a Bollywood movie screaming 'Naaaahhhiiii...Tiiidddaaaakkk...Noooooooo!'...as I run through the forest with my sexy volumised hair :))

On that note...few weeks ago, Lata-phant's sis got married *another one bites the dust! The wedding was totally sparkly n glam...long and noisy...yummy food and shiny deco...you know how Indian weddings are! I tell ya...that Lata was an absolutely classy sexy with her lovely pink saree. Well, Sunday morn...the gang of room HB3 5004 gathered at the wedding hall late as always *what? u try tying a saree!

For all my non-Indian buddies out there...when it comes to weddings here's tips to surviving the event:

  1. For god sakes...just because you're not Indian doesn't mean you arrive ontime...stick to the Indian timing...arrive at least 1/2 hours later than the set time.

  2. Remember to carry one's most important accessory...SUNGLASSES...this is to shield one's eye from the extreme glitter and gold overload.

  3. Key quote 'You snooze, you lose'...the number of people invited always far exceeds the number of seats available so if you don't know how to run in a saree...you're doomed to stand through the event.

  4. Stay away from wobbly high heels because tripping in an Indian wedding could send you flying straight into that fire the priest is tossing oil into.

  5. Okay....I swear...this is the most important one...the moment the chain that states one is married is tied around the bride...the rice is tossed to the stage...the wedding is over...NOW FLEE MY CHILDREN...FLEE FOR YOUR LIVES...like a pack of porkies...the crowd heads for the F.R.E.E. F.O.O.D...believe it or not, the old aunties are the worst!!! Its like they've been sent to military school in shoving and slamming.

I'll end with what Anu said that day 'Its Sunday morning...and we're off to a wedding'. My mum mumbles to me 'Ask Prema how much it all cost!'...I scream 'Why???'...She snickers back 'Just...'. I still feel like a spring chicken discovering myself and am in no way ready venture into the land of coupledom thank you very much :P

*Top of the world: Weekend bonanza 2*

Day 2....what a fantastic day of fun and history! YEAH I SAID H.I.S.T.O.R.Y.When a whole bunch of people are thrown in together on top of a hill, you can't help but have a great time. Thing is, being an extremely adventurous family we were out of stuff to do! Well, Genting's has become a kiddie themepark extravaganza...Cameron's is a dream for all the women out there with its flowers and posh tea spots. FRASER'S ??? Psst...psst...come closer...I'll tell you what made the whole trip worth it :)

We all woke up absolutely refreshed and rested. We were all adults caught in the rat race of the city life and I tell you there's nothing like a hill with no fon reception to get you to unwind! It was nearly noon and we were all starving...Mum says 'Hell no, I'm not cooking! Its my holiday too!'. So we hopped into our respective cars and headed to the town center towards this Chinese family restaurant for yummy hot food. I'm pretty much half Chinese so I was totally psyched to get some delish food.

Food review : Yummy, reminds me of food in Melaka *woohhooo my kampung! Its the only restaurant thats currently open in Fraser's till end of this year. So well, you don't really have much options. The food prices was about your average KL meal cost. The service was excellent. Yeap, we went back there for the next lunch too.

Now totally stuffed, we head down the road to explore the town futher. We came all this way to take a family shot at the famous clock tower just like we all had when we were wee lil babies years ago :)) The thing that facinates me is how English the buildings are...how adorable is that!

Why is it so English? History lesson : Fraser's Hill derives its name from Louis James Fraser, a British colonial adventurer and fortune hunter. Many colorful stories exist about his life, including rumors that he managed an opium and gambling den frequented by miners in the hills of Pahang. However, in the early 1900's, Fraser vanished without a trace. Fraser's disappearance remains a mystery to this day. Creepy? Interesting? Totally!

Hold on to your horses...its about to get fancy right now! Okay, lemme explain a lil about my facination with the British. Well, simple really...I love history...Malaysian history revolves around the British. Thus, my family and I were totally blown away, amazed, wow-ed from our trip to the Ye Olde Smokehouse.

Its this place built for extravagant divas like mua :)) THIS MADE THE WHOLE TRIP UP WORTH IT! This building built by the British of course has its very own history. Its rooms have been preserved for decades. Everything in it is English. Even down to the hairbrush and mirrors.

Interesting fact : Malaysian were not welcome in it until the year 1989

Even each placemat had its own little piece of British history. The enviroment was lovely and extremely comfortable. We had their yummy hot chocolate, coffee and two bowls of ice cream for tea.

We were already in awe when the head of the house took us on a tour upstairs to their suites and room available for rm300 onwards. He described what it takes to maintain a house as such and how much work goes into keeping it looking as good as it does. Freebies included was a tiny history lecture on what it was like when the British were ruling Malaysia.

All and all a fantastic trip. I was forced to unwind, relax and turn down the volume. We got a chance as a family to discuss our own family roots. Where in Sri Lanka was I from? How did we get to Msia? How did our grandparents survive the times? I love my family and trips like this bring us together. Its always the age old question...friends: cool...family: not so cool :P Sad but true...we dont live forever and I'd like to strike a balance between fun with family and my chosen family, my friends.

I head into bed as I look into the misty distance ready for the journey back home tomorrow. Rat Race here I come!!!

*Top of the world: Weekend bonanza*

I believe I had all sorta plots in my lil head on what adventures this trip will hold. Frankly, all plans were thrown out the window when we found out that Fraser's Hill was under reconstruction untill December 2008! Dammit! THE LAKE WAS FENCED SHUT! *There goes my picnic. THE GOLF COURSE WAS SHUT! *I was gonna sing 'The hills are alive' there as I run with my print dress. THE HORSE PADDOCK WAS DOWN! *No horses in sight. THE CURRY LAKSA SHOP SHUT EARLY! *My mum screamed 'NoOoOo...'.

Plus side is with great company, a trip can never go wrong. We made up for the lack of activities by exploring the entire hill on our own, Kandiah style :P

As always with the Kandiah clan...when family trips come...everyone has different jobs and different schedules thus we all arrived at different times. IT WAS AN AMAZING ROLLER COASTER RIDE! My cousin bro believes he's some sorta daredevil and with the speed of light we swerved up the hill.

We stayed at Fraser's Silverpark Resort. Nothing fancy really, just perfect for snoring and cooking. Our family motto ' Cheap motel, More money for outside adventure!' Our block is amongst the trees and the view from the balcony was spectacular! Mum whipped out her garam masala and made us all yummy masala tea to be sipped as we catched up on the hip haps in our lives.

The weather was just right...chilly and not too misty. We freshened up in seconds and headed out the door to start exploring! When I was a wee lil kid, my parents taught us that nature is beautiful. We went to flower parades constantly. Thus, I was totally in love with the variety and the size of the flowers in Fraser's :)

Erm, believe it or not...the 3/5 sisters of the Kandiah family being true to their heritage, brought every bit of meat, veg and spices they could grab ready to cook up a storm for dinner. WHAT??? THEY TOTALLY COULD OPEN THEIR OWN RESTAURANT :P
Tom Yum Rice

Spicy Chicken Dry Curry

Taufu Vegetable Curry

Prawn Curry

Yeah, I know...a whole load of curry...cold weather,yummy hot curry :)

Tummies stuffed...we watched some TV because it was waaaaaay too dark to head out again. We headed off to bed early *God bless, there were heaters in each room.

WHAT DID WE DO THE NEXT DAY??? TUNE IN TOMORROW TO 'A DAY IN THE LIFE OF THE MAGNIFICENT PREM & FLY!' *TeeHeeHee

  3. Pretending to be part of the Lord of the Ring crew as I hike through the jungles
  4. Hunting for my Mr.Darcy...Masala Tea,my handsome sir?
  5. Picking random flowers and saying 'aaawwwww, pretty'
  6. Sniffing the yummy cold clean air
  7. Dipping my feet into the waterfall

*My sexy date = Le DuDu*

Okay, it was an absolutely fantabulous day! I got great news and I had a dinner date with the totally cool DuDu.

FYI: She's the 1/4 owner of DuDubutt & Pals Electronics Company built in LaLa land for now with plans to expand to Malaysia in the future :P

I have alotta great friends but er...I totally torture her with all sorta gibberish spewing outta my mouth. She patiently sits there and nods her head as I go 'blah blah blah...yack yack yack'. This time we headed to Sushi Zanmai! OMG...I know that Wai San n DuDu had a yummy meal there but I didn't expect it to be so good.

I now looooooooove avocado! I must say that it is an experience all sushi lovers must try. It came highly recomended by YiFen and I know she has great taste in food. Off we headed to Sunway after work. Whoooosh to Sushi Zanmai for a whimsical sushi delight *drool

For people that are as fussy as I am when it comes to sushi. I have great news mateys! They have everything one needs...sweet sauce, salty kicap, wasabi, ginger!

Now tummies full...we needed to walk it off. Our aim for the night is to get the DuDu some skincare. The already fair and glowy skinned DuDu just needed something affordable yet effective. Calling our Guru...Wai San, she told us to head to Skin Food. The two of us saw the yummy smelling Rice Mask at RM44 and each bought a tub.

The DuDu also got herself this Snow Tea Eye Serum that brightens the eye area. My eyebags are pretty much a part of my identity. There is no serum in the world that will help us nocturnal creatures :P
Lastly, to finish off the night...I headed to Starbucks to try their double mocha special! It was my first Stabucks coffee in ages! Was absolutely overpriced but sinfully delicious. Can ya see the sprinkle of chocolate on the top of my coffee *slurp. Equally shared between me,mum n booboo.

Before heading to bed...I crack open my new rice mask and give it a try. You know how face stuff always seems like a good buy at the time but when you try it your face breaks out within seconds...THIS ONE ACTUALLY WORKED FABULOUSLY! MY SKIN IS BABIES BOTTOM SMOOTH NOW :)) Worth buy *grins

*Another weekend bonanza!*
The weekend is here...as usual, along the week with a few quick sms-es my weekend was packed with grand adventures! Now how did I end up lookng like something outta Saturday Night Fever with my 70's disco inspired new dress? ps: I am soooo loving it...new fav dress!

Okay, lemme start with my Saturday. Its a total boys club movie so I met up with the boys Mr.Singh and Jewel...Jewel...Jewel. We were gonna watch the new Indiana Jones! Weeeeee....Off to KLCC we went early morn, grabbing lunch in the Asian foodcourt. Yes...exam results will be out soon...we all begin to check the online system every day...heart beating fast...pulse racing...no point worrying over spilt milk anyways. Observe what the Singh had a craving for...waffles!

Question...how can Harrison Ford be that old and still be sexy with that hat on? Lemme tell ya, Shia wasn't half bad either with his sexy hair and Harley bike *wink wink. The movie was better than I expected. Gimme anything fast paced with explosions and I'm a happy camper :P

Its Jewel's first visit to KLCC's cinema and I had to take a photo of his glorious walk down the lane :))

Now, mind you my Sundays are my 'catching up on zZzZz' day...so obviously I overslept and woke up to She who is Mighty & Gay's voice hollering 'Prem, wake up!'. She's feeling the urge to shop. Even though I'd just been to Bangsar a few days ago, being the loyal buddy I was...I hopped into my print dress and we zoomed to those fantastic hot spots. Aaaaaa....THIS IS WHERE I GOT MY DISCO BARBIE DRESS! *I'm loving it..pa..pa..pa..pa..pa (Like McD's)

We headed to Nirwana so Gay could have her yummy banana leaf rice...and as always, we bumped into another old pal! She was our housemate in Emerald Park, Melaka and gosh, its been ages since we've catched up. All and all a day of great shopping success!

Monday, reserved for Porkchop. We both snored till noon being nocturnal creatures. Hopped outta bed and headed to The Curve. Mindy was taking me to the food spot in Ikea today. I've been to Ikea so often *yes, I love furniture and fixing them screws...but I've never tried their Swedish meals.

I took their Kid's holiday special and Mindy had the Lemon sauce chicken. Both were yummy and extremely affordable really. The best part of it all is that they have free coffee refills! Imagine, Latte,Coffee with Milk, Cappuccino unlimited! Me likey!

See...at the end of it all...I was extremely happy with my tiny weekend adventure. Yes, I do work...but work isn't interesting to blog about :P Have a fantabulous working week everybody!
